Tactical Operations Committee (TOC)

Established January 2013, the TOC provides an open venue for the FAA and those who operate in the National Airspace System (NAS) to work in partnership to identify and resolve operational issues affecting the efficiency of the NAS, and recommend resolutions to those issues and challenges.

The TOC has responded to or is working on FAA taskings on the following issues:

  • Criteria and process for reducing legacy components of the NAS (VOR Minimum Operating Network, Cancellation of Instrument Flight Procedures)
  • Regional airspace issues (Caribbean, Northern California)
  • Improving existing guidance and processes that impact operations (20:1 Visual Surface Area, Airport Construction, Class B Airspace)
  • Assessing operational impacts from changes to the NAS (PBN Route Structure Concept of Operations, GPS Adjacent Band Compatibility)
